Dragon Thank You Note (and Illustration Friday)

So, for Illustration Friday, this Dragon is craving some Dragon Cake! I promise I’ll get the tutorial up on making the Dragon Cake this week, but I figured I’d better get on those Thank You notes first. Just click through to Flickr to download him and use him for your own thank-you notes — He’s CC Licensed for personal use. He also matches the invitation graphic.

OR, you can snag both the invite and thank you notes, ready for printing, as a PDF!

A successful party! and free shipping on prints!

We survived the weekend of much fun and kid-partying. The Dragon Cake was a huge success, it tasted as good as it looked… and supplemented but 2 dozen red-velvet with sprinkles and chocolate “dragon’s egg” cupcakes, it fed the crowd. The Dragon-Wings were well received, too!

FREE SHIPPING!
Right now (until 6/12), you can get free shipping on prints over $15. So if you’ve been wanting to order a print of your favorite Nancy Dorsner piece, now’s the time. The code is DadsDay09. If you don’t see the piece you want at my store, just email me. Click here to go to the Shop!

Party planning continues… and contest winner is announced!

Dragon Party Stuff created thus far...
I’m coming down off the baking high from yesterday. Not only do we have the dragon cake (above) but a bunch of cupcakes too, because I tend to go overboard. So, along with the cakes, we have Dragon Wings for fun and favors, and the dragon invitation. I’m not sure that I’m doing any other dragon themed stuff, but I do have to run to Trader Joes today to pick up stuff for food. And plan the rest of the food.

Here it is! Pretty darn close to my vision (he does look like the Party Invite, right?), and wow! LOVE it. The “How To” will be coming next week (edit: it’s here!), when I have time to do a good writeup… Right now I’m just covered in cake batter and icing!

Dragon Cake - preview!

Dragon Cake - multi view

I ‘live blogged’ my baking day today at Twitter, so if you’re interested in some of the interim stuff, and can’t wait for the tutorial, you can see more there: Dot’s Twitter

And I’ll also have the tutorial for the Dragon Wings (quick and dirty capes for party favors) next week, too.

Cake Baking Day!

Slightly Cracked DragonApparently I’ve bitten off more than I can chew by thinking I could do everything to get ready for The Boy’s party this weekend, handle “Real Life”, AND actually blog about it!

So, I think the tutorial on how to make the Dragon-Wings will have to wait until next week. I made 20(!!) of them, so needless to say, this is a REALLY quick and dirty design. :)

Today I bake cakes. The plan is a Dragon Cake for the party, plus extra chocolate ‘dragon’s egg’ cupcakes (because The Boy wants chocolate).

I’ll be experimenting with marshmallow fondant for covering the dragon, so I’ll let you know how that goes!
I’ll keep you guys updated with pics of the progress… And if you follow me on Twitter, you can see them there!

Enjoy!

PS: All done… I’ll post better pics, but you can see the twitpics I uploaded from the twitter link!

Dragon Wings…

More to come on this, including the tutorial, once I finish making a bunch of these for The Boy’s Dragon themed birthday party!
