New Projects Page on Dabbled, and Pie.

I’ve been playing around with a new look for Dabbled, and I’m not quite happy with it yet… the main page seems too cluttered for my taste.  But one thing I love is the new Projects page.  It’s a quick look at many of the old projects featured on Dabbled… my own, guest posts, and so forth.  Go check it out, and let me know what you think :)

Oh, and I missed posting for Pi Day yesterday, but my brother did a how-to on making a blueberry-raspberry pie, over at Foodwhirl.  Go check it out, too!

Blue Jean Remake – Funky cute kids jeans tutorial

I thought this springy tutorial of Colleen’s from 2009 deserved another airing… check out how to remake too small jeans into these fun girls pants!

One of the most creative people I know, Colleen (of the great indie online fabric store Some Art Fabric & and the brand new Sloth Craft) has gifted us with this fabulous blue jean remake tutorial.  Born of a wrong sized thrift store purchase for jeans for her daughter,  this is a great example of how to take something ordinary and turn it into something way cool!   As always, we LOVE our guest posters!  Hope you enjoy this great tutorial as much as I did!  — Dot

Blue Jean Remake

Blue Jean Remake – by Colleen

I sew. Sewing defines me as a person and as a crafter. I don’t remember learning to sew, I know I did not spring from my mother’s loins with the skill. My dad taught me some time between yesterday and forever ago. I had my first job sewing before I was double digits, child labor was not an issue, since I worked for my dad.

jeans2 Sewing lead me down the wicked path of fabric and fabric brought me to where I am now, someone who owns an online fabric shop, Some Art Fabric.

I also love thrift stores, I purchase most of my kids clothes there, as well as supplies for much of my craftiness. Recently I went shopping sans children. I found some jeans that I thought would fit #1 child. I was wrong. So I decided to deconstruct the jeans and add in some space so that they would fit. This tutorial is an idea, and assumes that you have made a pair of pants before or at least worn a pair enough time to be able to figure out how they go together.

If it don’t fit! Alter it!

Colleen has lovingly prepared the tutorial as a pdf.
Download the 5 page tutorial: Jean Remake

Hope you enjoy!
As always, we’d love to see it if you try it!

A new look for Dabbled.org

a new look for dabbled.orgIf you’ve stopped by Dabbled this weekend, you might have noticed a little construction. I’m still in process, but Dabbled has a little bit of a new look. So excuse anything that doesn’t look quite right, and do let me know if you see any errors. I should have it finished up today!

Oh, and if you’re missing the OLD look of dabbled, just click the Classic button on the menu to get the old bloggy look.

Friday Link Day – BFFs, Scarecrows, Recipes, and more

The Art of the Scarecrow – The Candy Corn Chronicles spotlights these incredible scarecrow art sculptures.

I really like Alice at Futuregirl’s post about the importance of good comments on a blog.  I must admit that with as busy as I’ve been lately, I’ve totally been a slacker about commenting elsewhere–and I used to do it all the time… heck I’m lucky to have time to do a 144 char tweet! Definitely worth a read.

  • Niki’s Homemade Corned Beef and Cabbage

Here are the three posts from last year, with all the instructions you’ll need.

Goodbye Tumblr as a Portfolio Platform

Nancydorsner.com - nancy dorsner art and illustration…and hello WordPress!

Several years ago I created a portfolio site for my art on Tumblr.  I wrote up the how-to here, and it’s been a very popular post–and still quite valid for using Tumblr for this purpose.   However, I’ve decided to move on now.  I design most everything in WordPress these days, and it’s so much more flexible and powerful.  And although Tumblr is free, hosting is dirt cheap these days, and you can host multiple sites on the same account, so having another WordPress site on my account doesn’t cost anything.

Not that tumblr doesn’t work, and you can still see my old site here if you’re interested.

But nancydorsner.com is about to be up on WordPress (I’m working on moving it now) and shiny brand new.  I’m still working on it… but I wanted to go ahead and get it moved over.

Spring Paper Daffodils from Bitter Betty

It’s spring.. well, it may be still winter/february technically, but i’m sitting in my front yard in a sundress with a glass of wine typing this, so in my book, that’s spring. So i ran across this lovely tutorial on how to make paper versions of pretty spring flowers at Bitter Betty, and thought ‘how cool!’ … so here it is, my pretties….

Go find out how to make them over at Bitter Betty..

{this post magically disappeared, so I’m reposting it – sorry for the duplication!}
